Title : RESULT OF VIDEO MULTIMEDIA INTERVENTION ON KNOWLEDGE AND HEALTH BEHAVIOR ODIFICATION IN TYPE 2 DIABETIC PATIENTS AT PHOSIA HOSPITAL UBON RATCHATANI PROVINCE

This experimental study was aimed to determine the effect of health behavior modification with video multimedia in type 2 diabetic patients. The study was conducted in 92 patients with type 2 diabetes who had been treated at diabetic clinic of Phosai hospital, Ubon Ratchathani. These subjected were randomly selected and assigned to 46 cases for each control and experimental group. The former group received their standard care as usual while the latter received an intervention through 45 minutes of video multimedia regarding to= 1) basic knowledge in diabetes; 2) diet control; 3) exercise; 4) medications. The data were collected using an interview for basic knowledge and health behaviors in diabetes before and at 0, 4 and 8 weeks after giving the intervention. These were analyzed using Mann- Whitney test, Wilcoxon signed-rank and Friedman test. The results revealed that in comparison between pre and post intervention at 0, 4 and 8 weeks, the mean scores of knowledge in study group was significantly different ( 27.78 and 39.11, 36.41, 37.89 respectively; p-value < .001). Likewise, mean scores of the overall health behaviors in experimental group before and after intervention at 4 and 8 weeks were statistically different (208.6 and 242.0, 259.89 respectively; p-value < .001). Moreover, mean scores of health behavior pre versus post intervention at 4 and 8 weeks in terms of diet, exercise and medication were all significantly different (p-value <0.001, < 0.001and < 0.001 respectively).
