The objective of this cross-sectional survey research was to study types of healthcare service provider chosen by patients and satisfaction of patients at community health care centers/sanitaria in Mahachanachai district, Yasothon province. The objectives were to find out the types of health care service provider chosen in illness, evaluate the satisfaction of patients and analyze the relationship between sex, age, marital status, education, occupation, income, patent type and satisfaction of health care center/sanitarium customers. Data were collected by simple random sampling from 654 subjects who resided in Mahachanachai district, Yasothon province who had never or had received treatment at community health centers during June – August 2007. The tool employed in this research was a questionnaire. The results were that the most of the subjects were female (59.0%), the average age of 42.51 years old, married (77.7%). The highest education level was primary education (56.3%). 70.5% were farmers. The average monthly family income was 5,200 baths. The majority used Health Golden Card (30 baths) (86.5%), 69.6% were without congenital disease, 94.2% had received treatment at health centers within 6 months. The type of health care service most used by subjects was community health care service center/sanitarium (29.1%), next below was clinic (15.9%). The overall satisfaction in community health care service centers / sanitaria was at a high level ( =3.81). Details of satisfactions were as the followings= all aspects of satisfaction were at a high level. The aspect of highest average score was facility ( =3.92), next below was hospitality ( =3.89), news and information ( =3.80), cost ( =3.78), service co-operation ( =3.76), and service quality ( =3.73), respectively. In terms of the overall satisfaction, there were no significant differences due to the variation of sex, age, marital status, occupation, and health care insurance type (p > 0.05). However, it was found that education and income were factors related with statistical significance to the overall satisfaction of patients who came to community health care centers for service (p< 0.05). The results indicated that community healthcare agencies should realize the importance of service quality development and promotion of people’s access to good quality and inclusive services, especially on the issues of facilities, hospitality, news and information, cost, service co-operation, and service quality so that people can have good quality service.
