This quasi-experimental research with control group was aimed to determine the quality of life and beneficial effects on diabetic patients before and after receiving health promotion by meditation and yoga asana. The subjects were 140 patients with type 2 diabetes who had been treated at Kanthalak hospital, Srisaket. They were randomly selected to 70 subjects for control group and 70 subjects for study group. The study was conducted by giving health promotion by meditation and yoga asana to study group and data were collected using self-administered questionnaires, which was divided into 3 parts: satisfaction in activities with respect to diabetes; impact of diabetes and worry about social and diabetes-related issues. In addition, the clinical outcome was also determined using fasting blood sugar (FBS), hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C) and body mass index (BMI). The data was analyzed by using Chi-square, t-test, paired t-test and multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows: 1) The quality of life of diabetic patients in study group before receiving health promotion by meditation and yoga asana was at fair level (mean of 3.48) while quality of life was improved (mean of 4.10) after receiving the intervention. There was statistically significant difference (P-value < .001) in the overall quality of life and in each dimension before and after receiving health promotion. 2) The quality of life of diabetic patients in control group was at fair level (mean of 3.51) while the quality of life in study group was better (mean of 4.10) after receiving the intervention. There was statistically significant difference (P-value = .000) in the quality of life of diabetic patients between control and study group 3) There were no significant difference in FBS, HbA1C and BMI of diabetic patients in study group (P-value=0.068, 0.208, 0.085 respectively)before and after receiving health promotion using meditation and yoga asana. 4) There were no significant difference in FBS, HbA1C and BMI of diabetic patients between control and study group after receiving health promotion using meditation and yoga asana. (P-value=0.56, 0.859 and 0.543 respectively) Therefore setting up a group of diabetic patients who were interested in health promotion should be encoveraged so that patients can take care of themselves using this meditation and yoga asana, together with conventional therapy or this can an optional therapy for those who are interested.
