Dry hair shampoos have been essential products to nourish the problems of dry and damaged hair. However, many chemical substances from shampoo products can cause some critical problems such as irritation and toxicity. The aim of this work is to develop the formulas of dry hair shampoos by using natural substances instead of synthetic materials. Lauryl glucoside, a non-ionic surfactant from natural plant, was added to generate a mild detergent. Jojoba oil and olive oil were used as natural emollients; honey was also filled in as a humectant. When the experimental result came out, natural shampoos for dry hair had a similar physical characteristic to synthetic shampoos. For example, the pH of all shampoos was in the range of 6.5-8.5 and the viscosity of such shampoos was between 500-1500 centipoise. The stability test of produced shampoos by freeze-thaw cycle had also been tested in this experiment. Additionally, optical microscope at a magnification of 40x was utilised to characterise the surface of hair and Ross mile foam test was evaluated to measure the foam stability of shampoos. According to the research among volunteers, the majority of volunteers like shampoos with natural substances more than chemical shampoos. Therefore, the best way to prepare dry shampoos is to replace the synthetic substances with natural substances in order to produce nourishing shampoos for dry and damaged hair and finally develop into industrial production in the future time.
