Pharmaceutical tablets is the major dosage form for drug delivery. The production of bilayer tablets have been dramatically developed in order to deliver a sequential release of two drugs in combination. The purpose of this study was to prepare bilayer tablets which contain combined drugs, paracetamol and chlorpheniramine, by wet granulation technique. In this experiment, different types of binder (PVP K30 & Gelatin) and various concentrations of binder (1-3% w/w) have been used to find suitable granules with good flow properties. This work focused on only the concentrations at 1% and 2 % because excellent flow granules can be prepared from these two binding solution concentrations. The average sizes (mm) and moisture content (LOD) of both paracetamol granules and chlorpheniramine granules were examined before tabletting. Then granules of these two drugs were separately compressed into one bilayer tablet. The tablets properties (hardness, thickness, friability, content uniformity, disintegration, dissolution) tests of products made from 4 different formulas were meet general tablet standard except the disintegration time. The drug release profile of the bilayer tablet containing 1% PVP K 30 as a binder showed the fastest release rate of both paracetamol and chlopheniramine. In conclusion, bilayer tablets of paracetamol and chlopheniramine using 1% PVP K 30 as a binder has potential for commercial further development.
