KIR2DS3 is a gene to produce KIR2DS3 protein which is expressed on the surface of natural killer (NK) cell and play a role in immune response. This gene is highly polymorphic in individuals, and its frequency varies between populations. Furthermore, KIR2DS3 has been found to be associated with many diseases such as chronic hepatitis C infectious, Ebola infection and Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. Objectives= To study the frequency of KIR2DS3 gene among the Thai population. Materials and Methods= DNA samples were extracted from 100 volunteer’s bloods. Then, The DNAs were amplified and identified for KIR2DS3 gene by Polymerase Chain Reaction with sequence-specific primer. Results= The KIR2DS3 gene was investigated in 97 volunteers, and it was found in 42 out of 97 samples (about 43.29%). Northeastern’s people was found 20% (5out of 25samples), Central’s people was found 72% (18 out of 25samples), Northern’s people was found 44% (11out of 25samples) and South’s people was found 36.36% (8out of 22samples) Conclusion= KIR2DS3 gene can be found polymorphic in Thai population, and its frequency was observed to vary between the parts of Thailand. People who are located in the Northeastern part were difficult to find this gene when compared to the other parts of Thailand. As results, these data might be of benefits for studying its association with diseases in Thai population in the future.
