Anti-inflammation has been found from the Cleome viscosa extract. The aim of this research is to develop microemulsions formulation for muscle inflammation symptom. Methods= The study of microemulsion composition based on pseudoternary phase diagrams. The effects of quantity and type of oil part were conducted with 4 types of oil such as sunflower oil, cotton seed oil, medium chain triglyceride (MCT) and oleic acid. Also, the effect of surfactants; with ratio of Tween 80Ò and Span 20Ò at 1=1, 1=2, and 2=1 was investigated. All of microemulsion systems would be evaluated by physical observation, droplet size, conductivity, viscosity, and refractive index. Results= Tween 80Ò is able to produce the microemulsion in all systems and MCT= water = Tween 80Ò/Span 20Ò (2=1) produced the greatest area of microemulsion zone and produce water in oil microemulsion. The differences of viscosity coefficient were observed. The viscosity coefficient of microemulsion containing Tween 80Ò reduced with the decreasing of Tween 80Òamount (from 254,000-1,600 to 57,000-400), obviously. After Cleome viscosa extract loading, the appropriated system was cotton seed oil = water= Tween 80Òat ratio 10=10=80 since it produced the smallest droplet size (126.47 nm with PDI pdi=1) and produce oil in water microemulsion . Notably, if the cleome viscose extract is used solely in the formulation, the microemulsions will not appear in phase diagram. Conclusions=The cotton seed oil and MCT is able to use as the component for microemulsion system to contain Cleome viscosa extract and Tween 80Ò is a suitable surfactant for this system. However, the appropriated method/process of microemulsion preparation to produce a small droplet size and a good characteristic of Cleome viscosa extract microemulsion formulation are required in further study.
