Cleome viscosa is an indigenous medicinal plant that is widely used for wound treatment in Thailand, India and China. In previous studies, wound healing effect of Cleome viscosawas found in methanol extracts but there are few data on the oil seed. This studyevaluates the effects of C. viscose extract, seed oil of C. viscose, on human fibroblast cell. Objectives= To investigate the effects of the seed oil extract of C. viscose on wound healing process by determining cell proliferation, the rate of cell migration and gelatinase activity. Methods= This present study evaluates the effects of Cleome viscosa extract on fibroblast cell viability, migration and the level gelatinase activity by using MTT, Scratch-wound and MMP activity assay respectively. Results= At 24 and 48 hours of experiment, 0.03% v/v and 0.06% v/v of seed oil extract significantly reduced cell viability approximately by 60-70 % when compared to control (p-value < 0.05). On the other hand, the number of viable cells was not significantly reduced in 0.015% v/v of oil seed extract when compared to control. The rate of fibroblast migration slightly increased to 1.96 and 1.69 times in 0.015% v/v of seed oil extract at 48 hours and 72 hours respectively. There was no significant change of gelatinase activity in all concentrations of the extract. Conclusions= The safe concentration of oil seed extract on fibroblast cell was 0.015% v/v which also had a marginal effect of wound healing.
