Title : Perspective of pharmacists towards an effect on community pharmacy during the era of AEC

Asean Economics Community (AEC) has brought up many high competitions in varieties of business including drug store. This may lead to some effects on marketing factors (5Ps) together with a change in policy by Thai pharmacy council during the AEC era. Objective: To study the opinions of pharmacists on the effects of AEC towards community pharmacy after an open of AEC in terms of products, price, place, promotion and personal. In addition, transformation of drug store and realization in some change of policy from Pharmacy Council are also determined. Method: The data were collected using a self-administered questionnaires which were sent through post or online internet. Subjects were 246 pharmacists. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Result: The questionnaires were returned in a total of 132 (53.7 percent). The results revealed that marketing factors affecting to community pharmacy during AEC were Product, Price, Place, Promotion and Personal with a mean score of 1.99±1.11, 1.79±1.03, 1.70±0.93, 1.67±0.88, 1.60±0.88 respectively (total score of 5). The factor with highest effect to community pharmacy was communication/language skills of pharmacists with mean score of 2.62±1.33. In terms of transformation, 37.9 percent of subjects indicated that personal was the aspect which was needed to improve and 31.1 percent was aimed to language and communication skills. For the realization in policy from pharmacy council, the results showed that 97.7 percent of subjects complied with GPP. Conclusion: Overall, pharmacist from drugstores with the accreditation seem to see no or least effect on marketing factors towards the community pharmacy after an open of AEC.
