The objective of this study was to develop cleansing and moisturizing products for skin and hair derived from honey and beeswax. The shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap and glycerin soap were developed using honey and beeswax as humectants and moisturizers, and then assessed their physical characteristics. The stability of the products was studied at 2-8 and 45 oc. The acidity of products was measured using the pH meter at a concentration of 10% and 100% w/w. The stability of foam, irritation and moisturizing effect of skin were performed to assess user satisfaction. The efficiency of shampoo and conditioner were evaluated by wet and dry comb, and observation of frizzy hair, depicted the moisture of hair with water absorption. Study of characteristics of hair after exposure was performed using a scanning electron microscope to compare between the formulation with and without of honey and beeswax.
The result showed that the formulations with honey and beeswax demonstrated a better characteristic than the formulation without of honey and beeswax. In detail, formulations with honey and beeswax provided stable foam and irritation-free. The formulation improved the moisture to skin. Results of satisfaction showed that formulations developed were not different from commercial products. The characteristic of hair after using a product with honey and beeswax had healthier character than that of formulation with no honey and beeswax. Conclusion, honey and beeswax have good efficacy for skin and hair and could potentially be developed as commercial products.
