The aerial parts of Elephantopus scaber Linn. var. sacber. were extracted with hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, methanol and water. The antioxidative activities were determined by scavenging of 2,2–diphenyl–1–picrylhydrazyl (DPPH free radical). The methanolic, water, and ethyl acetate extracts exhibited scavenging of DPPH free radical with EC50 values of 24.43, 41.56 and 118.91 µg/ml, respectively. The antimicrobial activities were tested by agar dilution method, against six microorganisms; Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Propionibacterium acnes and Salmonella typhimurium. The ethyl acetate extract could inhibit Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Salmonella typhimurium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with MIC values of 5 mg/ml
