This cross sectional study was aimed to examine the quality of life (QOL) and factors associated to quality of life of HIV infected and AIDS patients in outpatient clinic at Sappasitthiprasong hospital, Ubon Ratchathani during Aug – Oct, 2010. Subjects were 238 patients who were diagnosed with HIV infected or AIDS with or without antiretroviral agents. These were systemically random selected. Six dimensions of QOL (physical, psychological, level of independence, social relationship, environmental, spirituality/ personal beliefs/ religion domain) were assessed using a brief version of questionnaire for HIV from World Health Organization (WHOQOL-HIV-BREF). The relationship between QOL and patients’ characteristics (gender, age, occupation, etc.) family support, disease and treatment duration, health status perception, complication, CD4 and viral load were also determined using Mann-Whitney U Test และ Kruskal-Wallis One-Way Test. The results revealed that overall quality of life of 88.7 % of subjects was at fair level. Most of the subjects had fair level of QOL in physical (68.9 %), psychological (73.1 %), level of independence (66.0 %), social relationship (71.4 %), environmental (82.4 %) and spiritual domain (58.0 %). Moreover, marital status, occupation, income, complication, family care including health status perception were significantly related to QOL score (p<0.05). These findings suggested that to enhance the quality of life of HIV infected and AIDS patients, an education on self-care, treatment to prevent complications, home visit for continuing care and continuing medication should be provided to both patients and their family.
