This cross sectional descriptive study was aimed to identify the standard time of working during rush hour (10.00-13.00) and to determine the manpower of working in the outpatient dispensing service at Sappasitthiprasong hospital, Ubon Ratchathani. The study was conducted using stopwatch time technique to identify standard time of each process in drug dispensing which included typing prescription, labeling, filling, checking and dispensing. The result showed that the total standard time for drug dispensing for 1 prescription containing 4-5 items of medications was 311.71 seconds (5.18 minutes). In addition, filling prescription was the longest process with mean standard time of 94.96 seconds or 30.46% of the total standard time for outpatient dispensing. Manpower was also determined using standard time of working together with the number of work unit in each dispensing process. The results revealed that the numbers of pharmacist, pharmacy assistant and pharmacy technician needed in outpatient dispensing service were 2.75, 2.33 and 1.43 respectively. In conclusion, the results from this study can be used as the basic information to identify the appropriateness of manpower in order to increase the efficiency of the workload in pharmacy organization.
