The purpose of this study were to investigate the antioxidant activity of water primrose extract using DPPH radical scavenging assay and formulate the topical cream contained extract. It was found that the antioxidant activity of water primrose extract (EC50 = 2.37µg/ml) was higher than that of vitamin E (EC50 =5.17µg/ml). In order to optimise cream base formulation, the physical appearance (texture, color and smell) and the feeling after apply (washability, spreadability and griltiness) were determined. Creams containing 0.000142 %w/w water extract as an active ingredient were prepared in this study. The data showed that cream base composed of water primrose extract on an emulcifier gave a good physical characters. The incorporated extract cream won a satisfied physical stability after heating and cooling accelerated testing at 4 °C and 45°C for 6 cycles. The selected cream formula were applied to irritation test on albino rabbit skin following the ISO 10993-10 (Amendment 1 = 2006). The result of skin irritation test can’t conclude.
