This research aimed to identify patterns and rate of aspirin used for antiplatelet aggregation in patients with strokes or cerebrovascular accidents who received medical care at Warinchamrab hospital during January to December 2008. Patients were identified from an electronic database by ICD10 coded I64. The results found a total of 146 patients with either cerebrovascular accidents or stroke. About 16.4% had cerebrovascular accidents whereas 83.6% were patients with stroke. Co-morbidities frequently found were hypertension only (26%), hypertension with diabetic mellitus (13%) and only diabetic mellitus (11.6%). Patients who didn’t receive aspirin (33.6%). However, data related to aspirin for secondary prevention of cerebrovascular accidents and stroke was not available in some patients with history of stroke or cerebrovascular accidents who came to hospital with other diseases and symptoms. Some patients received aspirin from other hospitals. About 9% were patients who were not prescribed aspirin although it was indicated. Doses of aspirin prescribed were 300 milligrams (53.6%) and 80 milligrams (46.4%). The results can be used as a guideline for improving medical care services for secondary prevention of cerebrovascular accidents and stroke.
