The powdered plants were extracted with hexane, dichloromethane, ethanol and water. Preliminary screening for antioxidative activity by scavenging of 2,2-diphenyl picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) free radicals and antimicrobial activity against 7 microorganism= Propionibacterium acne, Staphylococcus Aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Salmonella thyphimurium, Escherichia coli, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans were performed by agar disc diffusion method. The plants exhibited highest scavenging of DPPH free radical were ethanolic extract of green and yellow leaves of Ludwigia hyssopifolia with EC50 values of 7.24, 7.44 µg/mL respectively. The dichloromethane and ethanolic root extracts of L. hyssopifolia, inhibit P. acne with lowest MIC values of 10 mg/ml. The extracts could inhibit the growth of S. aureus were hexane root extract, dichloromethane extracts of yellow leaves and root of L. hyssopifolia, ethanolic green, yellow leaves and root extracts of L. hyssopifolia, water extract of green and yellow leaves of L. hyssopifolia with lowest MIC values of 10 mg/ml. The extracts could inhibit the growth of B. subtilis with lowest MIC values of 10 mg/ml were dichloromethane extracts of green and yellow leaves and root of L. hyssopifolia. None of the extracts were found to be active against S.thyphimurium E. coli A.niger and C.albicans.
